What makes a good entrepreneur? Better yet, what makes a winning leader—ambition, skill, industry knowledge, oversight, resilience, or emotional intelligence?

While we can all agree with the significance and impact of these traits on successful leadership, it is passion that is ultimately the perfect bedrock for a great and successful leader. Passion is the spark that ignites the fire and drives their entire journey forward. This holds true for Christopher C. Sadler, a third generation metal recycler who is immensely passionate about furthering his family's salvage and scrap metal recycling legacy.

As a child, Sadler wanted to be a metal recycler and carve his name among industry leaders. He even went as far as getting his father to take him to their facility so that he could learn the life of a recycler, early on. Having grown up in the salvage and scrap metal recycling industry, Sadler looked up to his father and grandfather and aspired to carry their legacy and business forward. Despite running his contracting and maintenance business independently, he knew salvage and scrap metal recycling was in his blood. When he saw an opportunity to diversify, he decided to trace his steps back to his roots.

Sadler's passion for scrap metal recycling eventually led to the genesis of Integral Scrap & Recycling (ISR) and made him the thirdgeneration torchbearer.

“ISR was born out of my passion for the industry. I don't do this for the money but for the love of the scrap metal game," says Sadler, president and CEO of ISR.

ISR is a privately-held scrap and recycling management organization that helps clients maximize their scrap value. It delivers a full-service, streamlined scrap management system to a wide range of clients, covering ferrous and non-ferrous metals and electronic scrap. With longstanding industry experience and in-depth domain knowledge, ISR is a go-to partner for its clientele, which comprises defense contractors, power generation suppliers, telecom companies, and manufacturers.

The team at ISR shares the same passion and is focused on exceeding industry standards when it comes to delivering value for customers. With a unique customer-first approach at the heart of its operations, it works to provide a simple and streamlined solution for their scrap metal recycling needs.

Leading the Scrap Metal Game

Today, scrap and metal recycling is a global game changer for many industry verticals. Its environmental benefits and ability to decrease manufacturing costs and reduce the evergrowing demands for raw material excavation have made metal recycling a worthwhile endeavor. However, most businesses often overlook its significance and consider it a sub-process, as it does not weigh into their main revenue stream. Even if they wish to derive value from scrap and metal waste, they often struggle with properly handling these materials.

This is precisely where ISR comes to their aid.

ISR stays on top of industry standards and takes a preventative approach, enabling it to align with the regulations set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). It specializes in offering a streamlined and simple solution that meets the scrap and metal recycling needs of clients. Its industry knowledge and experience have enabled it to successfully manage various clients, from walk-in peddlers to Fortune 500 companies. ISR purchases scrap metal from peddlers, commercial and industrial clients, and scrap and salvage dealers. It can process thousands of tons of scrap annually and has relationships with some of the most aggressive mills in the country.

An Expert Set of Hands that Cares for Every Client

In every client engagement, ISR focuses on increasing their bottom line. It takes an educative approach and advises them on determining the material’s chemistry and processing method required for the mill's appetite. Its team helps identify and upgrade the scrap by visiting their facilities and enhancing their processes. It starts by analyzing their operations and offers custom equipment that aligns with the facility’s requirements. While ISR provides the best solution for their scrap, customers can focus on what they do best, turning the wheels of their business.

This unique combination helps them more effectively increase their bottom line.

ISR’s team also educates clients on what they are generating and how it can be sorted and better contained, lowering recycling costs. In addition, it emphasizes providing them with a transparent and formula-based pricing structure to gain complete visibility into whether or not they are receiving the best pricing in the industry.

"ISR Was Born Out Of My Passion For The Industry. I Don't Do This For The Money But For The Love Of The Scrap Metal Game"

“Providing reliable and professional services plays a major role in our ability to maintain our customer base. At ISR, we are true professionals and treat our customers with the absolute respect and appreciation they deserve,” says Sadler.

Underlying all of ISR’s scrap recycling and management services is its green approach. It offers due diligence in checking materials for contaminants before they enter its facility, and clients are advised on how to handle their products before shipping them to ISR . It has also invested in implementing stormwater management and other amenities to protect materials from exposure and prevent degradation.

These initiatives stem from ISR’s passion and commitment to ensuring clients receive the best value for their scrap and metal waste. It has invested over $2 million in equipment for processing and hauling, to deliver increased profits from their scrap. It plans to invest an additional $3 million in state-of-the-art facility upgrades and add other locations by 2025.

The next big thing on ISR’s agenda is purchasing new equipment to process large volumes of scrap metal. It is working with Sierra International to acquire an advanced shear baler that will open doors to process dealer scrap rather than relying on industrial and manufacturer peddler scrap. This is a significant step toward broadening its horizons in the metal recycling industry and will take ISR to the top of the leaderboard.
